This morning's Ask Tony and Tucker question comes from Chris MacPherson.
Chris lives in Rockville, near Montrose Road and Hoya Street, right off of 355.
Chris writes: "each year beginning in late November and lasting through the winter, thousands (maybe tens of thousands) of crows choose to use the small grouping of trees as their winter migration site."
He says it's an amazing site at sunset each night... But they create a big mess.
Chris has three questions: First, he wants to know:
"Why have they picked this spot for their winter migration?"
"Why do the crows not fly further south?"
"Does this create a health hazard for those living in the area?"
Dr. Kevin McGowan, with the Cornell lab of ornithology helps us with the answer. He's one of the leading experts on crows in the U.S. He has been studying the birds for more than 20 years.
