POOLER, Ga. (AP) - Hundreds of runners on the Georgia coast are set to compete in 1 of the state's dirtiest races.

WTOC-TV reports more than 1,500 people have signed up for the 2013 Mud Run race being held Saturday on the campus of JCB Construction Equipment west of Savannah.

The race's 4.3-mile course is smothered in mud, dirt and water. It also has more than 20 obstacles including hills, logs and a water slide that plunges into a pool of muddy water.

The race, which debuted last year, is fashioned after the Tough Mudder race designed to train British special forces troops.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Lady Bamford Center, an early education center for children from low-income families.
