ATLANTA -

Food sponsors expect to serve more than 3 million meals to needy children across Georgia this summer.

The state's education department and the Georgia Food Bank kicked off the program on Tuesday that provides free food to children who would normally receive free meals during school.

Students can get a meal at more than 1,500 locations throughout the summer.

Sponsors served about 3.5 million meals to low-income children last summer.
