CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -

In front of a packed house, the Cherokee County School Board voted on Wednesday to conduct an ethics hearing against embattled board member Kelly Marlow.

The drama in the district began earlier this summer when Marlow filed a complaint with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) about the superintendent and the board.

A group calling themselves SCRAM -- Smart Citizens Rally Against Marlow – formed to urge Marlow to rescind the letter and resign.  They said they got gathered a petition that had more than 1,200 signatures.

Marlow has only been in office seven months, but has already stirred up quite a bit of controversy.

She was recently arrested for making false statements after reporting to police that the superintendent tried to run over her and two friends with his car.

That arrest fueled the anger of SCRAM members who were already upset about the complaint to SACS.

Marlow did have some supporters in the crowd.

"What doesn't seem fair is to have a lynch mob against a person that's asking those questions," said one woman.

Marlow voted with the board in favor of conducting the ethics hearing.

Marlow refused to make any comments during or after the meeting on the advice of her attorney.
