Teen wakes up to armed burglar in Decatur home

DECATUR, Ga. -

A 15-year-old girl woke up to a man pointing a gun at her head in her bedroom in Decatur.

The teen, who asked not to be identified, said she was shaken awake around 11 a.m. Monday at her home on South Candler Street and found herself face to face with a burglar.

The girl told her parents that the crook started making demands.

"'Where's the money?' He was asking all kinds of questions. She was startled. She thought it was a dream," said the girl's mother, Sherrett Minton.

The nightmare continued inside the locked home that the girl thought was safe.

"He made her get on the floor, look under the bed for a safe. He wanted money, he wanted combination, but she didn't know anything about it," said her mom.

Finally, the gunman forced the girl to unlock the front door and ran off with two cell phones – and the family's peace of mind.

"She's scared now. She doesn't want to be at home by herself," Minton said.

"Thank God for having his angels protecting her that, you know, we didn't come home to a worse situation because it could have been worse," the terrified mother said.

The family believes the man had entered the room side window.

The girl said that she is so shaken up that she is staying with relatives now.
