WALTON COUNTY, Ga. -

A group of runners are raising both money and awareness for a local boy and others who are fighting sarcoma, a rare form of cancer.  They're doing it by getting on their feet and pounding some serious pavement.

We aren't just talking about one race.  They put their lives on hold for five months to run across the country, spreading the word about what they were doing along the way through social media.

Landon Cooper and two others have literally run from the Pacific Ocean in San Francisco to the shorts of the Atlantic Ocean.  They have tackled 20 to 30 miles a day, and covered a total of 3,200 miles in all.  They've called their efforts Miles2Give, and in all, they have raised more than $103,000.

Sarcoma arises from connective tissues such as cartilage, bone and muscle.  Cooper says he was inspired to make the journey after losing someone close to him to the disease.  On Monday, the group spent time with a Walton County boy who will reap the benefits of their help.

Jake Russell's dad Randy says battling sarcoma can make you feel very alone, but knowing that someone else is willing to put their life on hold and reach out to his family is incredible.

Each day of the journey has been dedicated to a person the group has been running for.  The names of those people line the ceiling of their RV.  June 9 is Jake's birthday, so that day was dedicated to him.

Landon says they're already planning what they'll do in 2014, and he says they're considering running through a different country.  They've say they've still got a long way to go to raise awareness and money for sarcoma patients, and they're not stopping.
