Video shows suspect, 15, re-enact deadly infant shooting

Detectives say the prime murder suspect in the fatal shooting of a 13-month-old boy told police they didn't have enough evidence to convict him when they arrested him shortly after the shooting last March.

De'Marquise Elkins, 17, is on trial in the death of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago, who was shot and killed as his mother pushed him in his stroller on a Brunswick street.

Prosecutors played a video reenactment from co-defendant Dominique Lang's perspective. In the video, Lang, 15, walked police through what he says happened when Elkins confronted West and shot and killed the baby.

In the video the detective asked, "What did he say to her?"

Lang replied, "He was like, ‘Give me the purse.' Then, she was like, ‘No. What are you doing? I have a baby!'"

Lang says he was scared and about 20 feet from the violence and ready to run when shots rang out.

Police charged Elkins with murder shortly after talking to Lang.

On the stand Friday, Glynn County Police Detective Roderic Nohilly told jurors that Elkins had harsh words for police after his arrest.

The detective recalled Elkins saying, "He said, ‘You aint' got no gun or firefighters. All y'all have is a [expletive] acquittal.'"

The defense maintains that Lang, who is also charged with murder, is a liar who is simply trying to cover up for his own guilty actions.

The slain child's mother is expected to take the stand next week.
