WASHINGTON -

Representatives from Project End Gun Violence and Moms Demand Action gathered with supporters and local residents steps from the Washington Navy Yard Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil.

Neil Heslin, who lost his 6-year-old son, Jesse, less than a year ago in the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School says he felt obligated to attend.

"I testified in February at the U.S. Congressional hearing with Senator Feinstein,” he said. “At that hearing, I stated that what happened at Sandy Hook could happen at any school or neighborhood, or down the street from here in D.C., and nine months later, it happened here, down the street."

D.C. Councilmember Tommy Wells of Ward 6 also came out to show his support saying, "We have to do something about easy access to guns especially to people who are not stable."
