Store manager finds, returns woman's wedding ring

NORCROSS, Ga. -

A Good Samaritan helped reunite a local woman with a priceless treasure.

Robin Sommer lost her wedding ring while running errands in Norcross on her 19th anniversary Tuesday.

"For 20 years, since we got engaged, I've had that ring on my finger. My finger just ached. It's ridiculous how my finger ached while I was trying to search for it," Sommer said.

A Panera Bread on Holcomb Bridge Road was one of several stops Sommer made that day. She made a frantic call to the manager, Agatha Kalay, and explained what had happened.

Kalay and her staff immediately searched the restaurant, but didn't find the ring.

Sommer asked Kalay to look in the restaurant parking lot as she began to make the hour-long drive back to Norcross.

"As I did that, the ring was laying there and with emotions I think I looked at the ring and started crying myself," Kalay said.

Sommer was about a mile away when Kalay called with wonderful news.

"She goes, "I found it. I found it.'  I came running in and it was just big hugs and all the girls were crying," said Sommer.

Overjoyed, Sommer offered Kalay and her crew a reward, but the store manager wouldn't hear of it.

"I did tell her, ‘This is Panera. This is what we do, we build relationships so our guests can come back," said Kalay. "That's what I said to her, ‘Just having a smile on your face is enough for us.'"

Sommer said she was so moved by the return of her ring and the attitude of the Panera staff that she really wanted to express her gratitude by letting people know about Kalay's good deed.
