CONYERS, Ga. -

A Conyers veteran said that he wasn't surprised to hear of the lengths his comrades went to in order to see the World War II Memorial.

Bill Blasingame, an 88-year-old Navy veteran who served in World War II, was in DC last week with the Honor Flight. The organization treated 25 veterans and their companions to an all-expense paid trip. Blasingame described the experience with his daughter as a trip of a lifetime.

He said he wasn't surprised when the veterans made their way past the barricades to see the World War II Memorial, despite a partial government shutdown.
