BUFORD, Ga. -

Authorities say one person was killed in an accident in Gwinnett County on Friday.

The accident took place at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and South Waterworks Road in Buford. According to Sgt. Jake Smith of the Gwinnett County Police Department, an officer had stopped traffic on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard for a funeral procession. After the procession had cleared and the officer released traffic, an SUV on South Waterworks Road ran a red light and was struck by a pickup truck on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, police said.

The passenger of the SUV, an elderly female, was killed. The driver of the SUV was taken to a local hospital, police said.

The driver of the truck was not seriously injured, authorities said.

Police said they are investigating the possibility that the SUV was attempting to catch up to the funeral procession.

No charges have been filed yet, pending the results of the investigation.
