Wake, funeral set for fallen Atlanta police officer

ATLANTA (AP) - An Atlanta police officer who was killed in a crash while he was off duty will be laid to rest this weekend.

Department spokeswoman Kim Jones says the wake for three-year department veteran Ryan Baird will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Murray Brothers Funeral Home.

State patrol officials have said an SUV Baird was driving Monday evening veered off the road and he was killed when the vehicle hit a tree.

Baird, of Douglasville, was assigned to the Airport Section of the department's Community Service Division.

The officer's funeral is being held at Big Bethel AME Church on Saturday at 11 a.m., and he'll be buried at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.
