ATHENS, Ga. -

A local business owner has donated $1,000 to an Athens animal shelter in dire financial straits.

Capitol Construction Company in Kennesaw owner Doug Bodenhamer made the donation to Petzone and has challenged other companies to come forward and do the same.

On Thursday, FOX 5 reported that Petzone, a no-kill shelter in Athens, may have to close its doors due to financial difficulty. The shelter is looking for homes for its 18 dogs and 3 cats.
