JEFFERSON, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say they've ruled the death of a pregnant 16-year-old girl in Jefferson a homicide, and have made an arrest in the case.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Friday Cheyanne Hair died Wednesday at Athens Regional Medical Center. She was taken to the hospital after authorities responded to a residence following a 911 call requesting medical services.

Authorities have obtained arrest warrants for 34-year-old Jonathan Michael Smith. He has been charged with murder and feticide.

Police said Hair moved from Spalding County and was living with Smith at the Winder Highway home when she was murdered.

Smith is being held at Jackson County Jail on unrelated charges, police said. According to authorities, Smith faces unrelated charges in Spalding County in addition to the murder charges.

Citing the active investigation, the GBI declined to release the cause of death Friday.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the GBI ask that anyone with information related to Hair's death call the Jackson County Sheriff's Office tip line (706) 367-3784.
