4 Atlanta city employees fired for allegedly drinking on the job

ATLANTA -

Four city of Atlanta employees have been fired after being suspected of driving city cars while drunk, FOX 5 has learned. All of the violations were found after the suspected DUI crash of a city garbage truck that left one employee dead and another injured.

As FOX 5's Morse Diggs reported, authorities say the driver in that fatal garbage truck crash had a significant amount of alcohol in his system.

Since the accident, four employees have been terminated and several others in the Public Works and water department have been sent home as the city awaits test results before taking further action.

Atlanta City Councilmember Michael Bond, the Council's Public Safety chair, said that he will hold department heads responsible if they can't get a handle on the problem.
