'Santa For Seniors' shares holiday joy

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA, Ga. -

The seniors at the Meals on Wheels Atlanta Adult Day Health Program are getting a special treat: the joyful sounds of Christmas carolers.

Dottie Smith, who started volunteering with Meals on Wheels more than 15 years ago, wants them to get a little more during this time of year: she wants them all to receive Christmas gifts.

Leaders say, they're the fastest growing segment of the population, yet senior citizens are often forgotten during the holidays.

Smith started Santas for Seniors, a program that gives seniors Christmas gifts. The individually wrapped gifts are delivered to their home along with their meal. Gifts include gloves, hats and greeting cards.

Simple gifts that can mean the world to a lonely metro Atlanta senior.

Organizers are in dire need of gifts for these seniors. They're collecting items like small radios, hats and slippers.

They also need volunteers to help wrap gifts and they're having a wrapping party next Wednesday, the 18th.
