Puppies, dog food stolen from Lithonia pet store

Posted: Updated:
LITHONIA, Ga. -

Authorities are searching for a thief behind a smash and grab robbery at a pet store in Lithonia. The owner of Farina Best Dog Food said that the crooks stole every bag of dog food and two prized pups.

Surveillance footage shows the thief empty the store shelves of about 40 dog food bags and then look around. He eventually spotted two puppies – Presa Canarios that sell for about $2,500 each.

"I think that this person came in for the dog food and the puppies were a gift…The puppies never knew anybody but us," said store owner Douglas Luke.

Luke said he's concerned about the welfare of the puppies. He said that he often helps customers who can't afford to feed their pets, so the crime hurts even more.

"We know people are struggling, however we don't want them taking from us," Luke said.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call police.
