Pedestrians and cyclists encouraged to "get glowing"

Posted: Updated:

There is less daylight during the winter. That's why pedestrians and cyclists are being encouraged to "get glowing."

The Department of Public Safety held a public forum Thursday to discuss and promote the importance of wearing reflective gear.

The idea is to make cyclists and pedestrians more visible before and after daylight hours.

Since Dec. 1 2012, Georgia had 25 pedestrian fatalities and four bicycle fatalities -- a vast majority of those have been after 5 p.m.

Speakers at the event actually cut the lights off to demonstrate the benefits of bicycle reflectors and other reflective clothing. In 2011, 70 percent of all nationwide pedestrian fatalities happened at night.
