Douglas County DA won't seek re-election

Posted: Updated:
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. -

Douglas County District Attorney David McDade has announced he will not seek reelection.

McDade, who has been District Attorney for 24 years, issued a statement to his hometown newspaper, the Douglas County Sentinel.

McDade stated the county has trusted him to be their voice for justice. He mentioned his fight for victims' rights, and thanked his staff and family for their support.

He cited recent health problems, a result of emergency surgeries to remove clots in his legs, as the reason he will not seek reelection.

Mr. McDade made no mention of the ongoing GBI investigation into allegations he misspent seized drug money on cars, trips, and second jobs his staff and their family members.

McDade called for the investigation following an I-team report about his drug forfeiture expenditures.

Last week, the FOX 5 I-Team's Dale Russell, reported the Attorney General was prepared to impanel a grand jury to present evidence against Mr. McDade.

Mr. McDade's top assistant, Brian Fortner, has qualified to run for Douglas County District Attorney.

We already know about some of the fees our banks charge -- the monthly fee, the overdraft charge, out-of-network and minimum balance fees. That's standard stuff. But did you know that the average checking account has 30 fees attached?
