COVINGTON, Ga. -

Police in Covington say they arrested a man they believe robbed a store and tried to make a slick, if not unique, getaway.

FOX 5's cameras were there as police took Stephen Young into custody at a department store at the Mall at Stonecrest on Sunday afternoon. Police say Young led them on a more than 17-mile chase after robbing a discount store in Covington.

Police say Young entered the fred's Super Dollar store and robbed it at gunpoint. Officers arriving at the scene were able to catch up to his minivan that was pulling out of the parking lot.

After a high-speed chase, he ended up in the mall's parking lot. They say due to the Sunday shopping traffic, he was able to separate himself from police.

He ended up walking into the Kohl's where he proceeded to grab clothing off the racks and head towards the fitting room. A loss prevention officer noticed the activity. He and a security guard ended up confronting Young who was attempting to change into those new clothes.

They were able to wrestle Young to the ground so police could take him into custody.

As Young was being escorted out of the store, he didn't bother to hide his face from FOX 5's cameras.

Police say he will be charged with armed robbery and fleeing to elude. More charges may also be added.
