HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -

The man who struck and killed a police officer in 2012 is now behind bars, thanks in part to an alert citizen. Henry County Police Officer Elgin Daniel was struck and killed by a vehicle after he stopped to help a stranded driver in November of 2012.

The driver the vehicle that killed Daniel, Reubern Merren recently pled guilty to the hit-and-run and is now in jail.

According to crash scene investigators Merren was driving a pick-up-truck with a missing mirror. In 2012 police shared the information about the truck with the media.

Bill Baldwin saw the story and then became suspicious about a man who had come to the dealership he worked at looking for a Ford truck mirror. Baldwin wrote down the customer's information and turned it over to police.

According to authorities the information that Baldwin provided aided in Merren's arrest. Baldwin's information was so helpful that Henry County police decided to give Baldwin a $6,000 dollar reward.
